Victoria Thomasson | Percussion

Victoria Thomasson, the bands percussionist, is most comfortable in the Director’s Chair

for Halifax County Little Theater for the last 23 years. Spearheading the musicals GREASE, Wizard Of Oz, BeeHive, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Pump Boys and Dinettes, The Sound Of Music-HCLT, Bye-Bye Birdie, Snow White, SUDs, and a dozen or so more is the where this percussionist spends her creative energies.

“I love the SHOW!  Whether is in the confines of the theater or in a music venue, watching people enjoy a show is a life-line. 6th N Main is always new to me. It’s certainly always a challenge. I just get so much enjoyment finding the rhythms in a piece of music. Often the congas/bongos are very deep within the song and I have to listen so hard to find them. I have to isolate all the other sounds in the music and let my ear locate just that one rhythm I’m looking for.”

Vicky credits her father’s brother, Tom for her love of “the beat”.

“My Uncle Tom was a fabulous drummer during the Big Band Era. He played as long as I

can remember in the Catskills in the big ballrooms. Just like in the movie Dirty Dancing. We would go up from Poughkeepsie, and have dinner, and listen to that big band sound.  As a kid, I loved his studio with dozens of white jacket albums. Every one of them would have a certain rhythm on it. We would have our cousins ‘jam-band’.  One Sunday afternoon we went to their home and around the pool with my Uncle were Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. Everybody sipping gin and tonics. Yup, I was star-struck!”

6th N Main adds all the elements of percussion into a song, and Vicky maintains the beat on the congas/bongos, chimes, tam and the blocks.

“It’s all that good noise that gets your pulse going and your heart rate up.

6th N Main is such a fun wedding band. I think that’s my favorite part. I can work with a bride on the music for six months, sometimes more. It’s such an important day, and the party has to be perfect. This is where I can do my Director thing. The band will coordinate with bridal colors, and learn whatever we need to do to make that day just belong to them. It’s wonderful.”
