Donald Nodtvedt | Trombone

Donald Nodtvedt is one of 6th N Main’s two slide men. Donald studied under Hugh McMillen, Director of Bands and Trombone professor at the University of Colorado from sixth grade through college. The Colorado native started playing music at the age of eight and played his first public solo at age 10 at a concert of the legendary trumpeter Harry James.  As the son of parents who hold bachelor and master degrees in music, it was in inevitable that he play an instrument. Donald plays Tenor Trombone, Valve Trombone, Bass Trombone, and Euphonium.

 

“It has always been a dream to play in a band like 6th N Main,” stated Donald. “It is not just the type of music that they play, but more important, performing with musicians of their caliber. This is my first foray in a band of this type and I am thoroughly enjoying it.”

 

Donald has performed with the University of Colorado Symphonic, Marching and Jazz Ensemble Bands, Oconomowoc (Wisconsin) American Legion and Waverly (Iowa) City Bands, the Cavatina Brass Quintet, the Danville Symphonic Orchestra, the Danville Dixie Band, Danville’s Starmont and Mike Day’s (Greensboro) Big Bands, Adoration Praise and Worship, Ascension Lutheran Praise and Worship, and Fairview United Methodist Praise and Worship Teams.

 

The Danville resident also has Broadway musical experience, performing in the Danville/Pittsylvania County area performances of: South Pacific, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, West Side Story, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, and The Music Man.

 

Donald not only plays a mean trombone, he is also one of 6th N Main’s horn arrangers.
