Bob Thomasson | Band Leader/Keyboards/Vocalist

Bob Thomasson is the band leader and is well-known locally as a versatile musician. Bob had the vision for a vocally dominant band quite a few years ago, and it has been realized in 6th N Main.

Bob plays bass and guitar, but his passion is the piano. It was his Great Aunt Annie Lou Williams who introduced him to the piano when, at the age of nine, she gave him his first lesson.

A passion was ignited.

Until two years ago, Bob continued to play at the 110-year old piano his fingers first touched. Today, the hours are spent reading music for the theory, listening to it for the details, and giving it life and personality on his beautiful Petrof piano.

Bob has played with Solomon Grundy, Palace Dukes, Big Bertha and The High Risers, Mixed Rezults, leading him to 6th N Main.

“Every band configuration is a learning experience for me. It brings together different talents and incorporates different musical goals and dynamics. 6th N Main has incredible vocals that leave the door wide open for song selection. This band has the dynamic voices of Alison Streeter, Tasha Dyer, Chauncey Smith, and Ray Crawley. These voices can cover R&B, Beach, Disco, Pop, Rock and Country. It’s what I was really looking to do. It’s the music that makes people move."

Then there is theater. Bob took a new turn as Musical Director for Halifax County Little Theatre’s Production of BeeHive in 2004.

“I had no idea what to expect with all that but I was up for trying something new. Theater takes on a whole different skill set to incorporate the music. I remember my first experience with a headset, ‘ready’, ‘not ready’, ‘Bob play’, ‘Bob hold’, people calling light cues, and then someone crawling up under my piano bench with a hand coming along side of me to put a Santa Hat on my head that I forgot to do it at the scene change.”

He must have enjoyed it because he came back for Pump Boys and Dinettes, Smokey Joe’s Café, SUDs and the 2014 reprise of BeeHive.

“My goal is, get ‘em on the dance floor and let’s have some fun!”
